Four tile types dominate the vitrified segment — GVT, PGVT, Full Body, and Double Charge. They all share a vitrified base, but each is built differently, looks different, and performs differently. Here is a direct comparison to help you choose.
GVT — Glazed Vitrified Tile
GVT tiles have a digital glaze printed on top of the vitrified body. The surface layer carries the design — stone patterns, wood looks, abstract textures — with exceptional detail. The glaze also determines the finish: matte, glossy, or satin.
- Design freedom: Highest — virtually any print possible
- Durability: Good — glaze layer may wear in very high traffic over time
- Best for: Bedrooms, living rooms, feature walls
- Price range: Mid to premium
PGVT — Polished Glazed Vitrified Tile
PGVT is GVT with a polishing step added after glazing. The result is a mirror-like surface that dramatically enhances light reflection. Spaces feel larger, brighter, and more upscale. The trade-off is slightly more visible fingerprints and requiring regular cleaning.
- Surface: Mirror-polished, high gloss
- Design freedom: High — same digital print options as GVT
- Best for: Luxury living rooms, hotel lobbies, showrooms
- Maintenance: Needs regular wiping to stay pristine
Full Body Vitrified Tile
In full body tiles, the colour and texture run entirely through the tile — from the surface to the base. Scratch the surface deeply and the pattern underneath looks identical. This makes full body tiles the most wear-resistant option available, regardless of foot traffic or abrasion.
- Durability: Highest — pattern goes all the way through
- Design freedom: Lower — mostly solid colours and stone textures
- Best for: Outdoor areas, industrial floors, heavy-duty commercial spaces
- Finish: Natural matte; can be machine-polished
Double Charge Tile
Double charge tiles are made by pressing two separate layers of pigmented granules together under extremely high pressure. The design penetrates 3–4mm deep into the tile body — far deeper than a surface glaze. This process produces a tile that is virtually impossible to scratch through in normal use.
- Pattern depth: 3–4mm into the body
- Hardness: Extremely high — commercial grade
- Design freedom: Limited — primarily marble and stone looks
- Best for: Offices, hospitals, airports, retail floors
