Sustainability

Building a greener future,
one surface at a time

At Sisam, sustainability isn't a programme bolted on — it's built into how every tile is made. Renewable energy, closed water and material loops, and reuse-first packaging run through our entire production.

2030 Target

100% renewable electricity — our commitment to the planet

Powered by sun & wind

Renewable energy at the core

Energy is where a tile plant leaves its biggest mark — so we attack it first. We generate our own clean power from the sun and the wind, and we recover the heat our process would otherwise throw away.

Rooftop Solar PV

Solar arrays across our plant sheds turn daylight into clean power for daytime production — cutting grid draw and emissions.

Wind Power

Through green-power agreements, wind energy supplies a growing share of our grid demand — renewable generation that runs around the clock.

Heat Recovery

Waste heat from kilns and dryers is captured and looped back to preheat the line — so less natural gas is burned for the same output.

Our target: 100% renewable electricity across production by 2030 — powered by sun, wind, and recovered heat.

Nothing wasted

Closed loops, by design

What most plants discard, we send back into production. Three loops run continuously — water, material, and packaging — so very little ever leaves as waste.

Water

Near-zero discharge

Process water from glazing, cutting, and washdown is filtered and returned to production. The pressed sludge that remains is dried and fed back into the tile body.

Material

Scrap becomes raw material

Unfired scrap returns fully to the body mix. Fired offcuts are ground into grog and re-blended, and polishing dust is recovered rather than dumped.

  • Crush & grind
  • Into the body mix
Packaging

Packed in a reuse cycle

Recycled-kraft cartons, returnable wooden pallets and corner guards, and recyclable film keep our packaging circulating instead of landfilling.

  • Recycled-content packs
  • Returned & reused
  • Recycled again
The Sisam loop

One continuous cycle

  1. 01

    Raw + recycled input

Virgin material blended with recovered scrap and sludge.

  2. 02

    Production

Formed and fired on solar- and wind-powered lines.

  3. 03

    Recovery

Water, scrap, and waste heat are captured back.

  4. 04

    Reuse

Recovered streams re-enter the next batch, closing the loop. ↺

+ a packaging side-loop: cartons, pallets, and film circulate back through reuse and recycling.

Measured impact

Where it adds up

0 Renewable electricity today
0 Process water recycled
0 Recycled content in tile body
0 CO₂ avoided / year
Lasts longer, replaced less

Durability is sustainability

A tile that lasts for decades is the quietest sustainability win of all — fewer replacements, less embodied energy, less waste over a building's life. Our surfaces are engineered to stay beautiful long after they're laid.
